Responding to COVID19
Our impoverished communities are the most vulnerable in this pandemic. CAHF has ramped up its support for the communities in our well established community hubs (distribution network) in Bridgetown, Delft, Heideveld, Khayelitsha/Macassar, Ocean View and Valhalla Park.
Through generous donations we have been able to supply 300 x 1kg meal-in-a-bag, 300 x essentials-food-hamper, 300 canned food tins and 300 tins of jam & bread PER WEEK. We will continue as long as we have funds.
We have also partnered with the Mahabbah Foundation who have raised enough funds through their Bread for Brethren campaign to supply 1000 loaves of bread per day for 30 days to our hubs and additional areas they have identified. The supply of bread started today, 1 April, and will continue until 30 April … and possibly beyond. Mahabbah Foundation have launched a second campaign, Food for Brethen, to be able to fund more essentials-food-hampers.
We have also partnered with the Penlyn Estate Civic Association who are responding to the needs of Hanover Park and surrounds. Their fundraising efforts have allowed them to distribute 100 x meal-in-a-bag and 100 essentials-food-hamper, along with many other food and hygiene supplies.
We are incredibly grateful for the preferential pricing and fantastic service we have received from our suppliers, Spice City, Giants Hyper and Wholesun Bread.
We would like to thank the public for their generous donations that have made this possible. We appeal to you to continue to support us so that TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
All praise and thanks is due to the Almighty for opening our hearts to those in need. May He make it easy for us, guide us and protect us. Amen.
A CAHF community hub is a trusted family home in the community. Our hubs understand their communities needs and they already serve their communities. We support and supply our hubs with equipment and food supplies on an ongoing basis. We have 6 hubs viz. Bridgetown, Delft, Heideveld, Khayelitsha/Macassar, Ocean View and Valhalla Park.
Together with Spice City, we developed a dry food Akni mix. This is a rice based meal with all spices and soya included. Simply add water and cook. Depending on portion size, our 1kg bag serves 8-10 people. We are busy developing new flavours to provide variety, as well as a 500g bag in addition to our 1kg bag.Â
Feeding Scheme Strategy
While we are centrally managed, we operate from designated residences within the community. We rely on these committed residents to gain a better understanding of specific underlying needs of their communities.
The Connect A Heart Foundation (CAHF) operations center serves as the intermediary between donors, sponsors, experts and support networks and the community.
Operations are simplified by being the single touch point for donors , sponsors, experts and support networks, and the distribution center to reach our community satellites.
To undertake community research focused on alleviating hunger and poverty, formulating action, thereby creating an enabling environment for empowerment.
